Teddy Ballgame talks about his trip to the AFL on Baseball Zealot Radio

I don’t get Teddy Ballgame in front of the mike very often but when I do, it’s a treat.  In Show 33, he gives us his take on what he saw when he went to the Arizona Fall League.

Here are the show notes:

Show Notes for Episode 33:

Hosts: Tom, Tedd:

Summary: Teddy’s back from the warm climate of Arizona where he caught some Arizona Fall League action.  In Show 33, he gives his scouting report of the players he saw and an overall summary of his trip.

A-Rod is one of Teddy Ballgame’s favorite players so we managed to hit on the topic of his departure from the Yankees as well.

We aren’t always graced by Teddy smooth voice (he says he has a face meant for radio) and sharp analysis so take advantage of his appearance on this show and take a listen.

Teddy Ballgame’s report on his trip to the AFL

Teddy mentioned a few AFL players (Joe Savery and Andrew McCutchen) that were keeping player blogs.  You can access these players’ blogs and others on the AFL’s 2007 Player Journals page.

Tune into Baseball’s Greatest Hits

Imagine a radio show where all they play are baseball songs.  Well. that’s essentially what you get with baseball author and historian Wayne McCombs’ podcast, Baseball’s Greatest Hits.  I got some time to listen to a couple shows and believe me, his songs run the gamut.  I heard team-specific ditties like Harry Caray’s “The Cardinals … Continue reading “Tune into Baseball’s Greatest Hits”

Imagine a radio show where all they play are baseball songs.  Well. that’s essentially what you get with baseball author and historian Wayne McCombs’ podcast, Baseball’s Greatest Hits.

I got some time to listen to a couple shows and believe me, his songs run the gamut.  I heard team-specific ditties like Harry Caray’s “The Cardinals are on the way, Tra-la, Tra-la” as well as Ol’ Blue Eyes singing “There Used to be a Ballpark”.

McCombs sometimes includes interviews.  One I heard was a conversation between Jack Buck and Jonathan Winters which was quite funny (I’m a big Winters fan).

There are commercials and interestingly they are local ones for the Oklahoma area.

So check out Baseball’s Greatest Hits if you are looking for music from our favorite sport.  FYI… you can also get it on iTunes.

Baseball Zealot Radio has a Cubs Roundtable

cubs logo

BZR turns the big 3-0 (episodes) this week.  I remember a poster that my cousin had up on his wall back in his rebellious days that said “Never trust anyone over 30!”  Of course now he works for a defense firm so take that for what you will.

This week’s show features two Cub fans as guest hosts.  I must say that provides for a different atmosphere when discussing my beloved Cubs.

We had fun doing the show and I hope you enjoy listening to it.  As I say in the show notes, I think I’ll have them back again.

Without further ado, here are the show notes:

Show Notes for Episode 30:

Hosts: Tom, Alex, Tyler

Summary: It’s crunch time for the Cubs so I bring on Cub fans Alex Breen and Tyler Davis as guest hosts.

We discuss the Cubs’ improved pitching staff, Lou Piniella’s shaving habits, and decide who we would choose for this year’s Cub MVP.

We had so much fun, BZR might invite those two back again.

Baseball Prospectus recently interviewed Twins setup man Pat Neshek.  You can listen Will Carroll’s interview with him here.

I follow Neshek for a couple reasons.  One, I took a chance on him in the Illowa APBA League’s rookie draft.  So far I haven’t been disappointed.  As a fantasy sports game, APBA doesn’t just value a reliever on the save alone.

Also, Neshek is a blogger.  Check out his blog, On the Road with Pat Neshek.  From the looks of it, he finds the time to update it frequently.

It’s a pretty awesome site, full of photos, articles by Pat, as well as a description of his delivery.  I particularly liked his My Baseball Cards page showing his cards going back to his minor league days.

Keep the ball down low, Pat.  You might be my closer next year.

BZR chats with Al Yellon from Bleed Cubbie Blue

I caught up with Al who gave me an interview for the Zealot.  He’s quite busy this season especially this time of year.

I think this was the first time we’ve had a Cubs fan on the show.  A real treat for me and a quite a switch from putting up with my Sox fans co-hosts.  Just kidding, CLuke.

Thanks to Al for his time.

Thanks for listening!!

Show Notes for Episode 29:

Hosts: Tom

Summary: Al Yellon is one of the biggest names in the Cubs blogosphere.  His blog, Bleed Cubbie Blue, is a great resource for Cub fans and judging by the amount of feedback, he has a large following.

For Episode 29, Tom chats with Al.  We talk a few minutes about the BCB blog then spend the rest of the show on what’s happening with the Cubs.

Roundtable discussion on Baseball Zealot Radio

Show Notes for Episode 28:

Hosts: Tom, Todd V, and C Luke

Summary: It’s been a while since we’ve had a roundtable discussion so we have regulars Todd and Chuck on to discuss what’s happening in baseball.

Todd came armed to the teeth with his issues with Pirates’ GM Dave Littlefield and how he’s handling the Buccos.  Other topics we cover:

– Chuck does his review of ESPN’s Bronx is Burning.

– Tom Glavine’s 300th win and will there be another 300 game winner

– Chuck notes an article he read about moving the HOF to Yankee Stadium after the team moves.  We discuss.

– plus the usual Sox-Cub banter and much more!

Also, Dr Burgos played an instrumental part in the induction of the class of 2006 Negro League ballplayers.  Again more info…

Bonds Press Conference Audio: “This record is not tainted.”

You can listen to the Bonds press conference at MLB.com.  It was very cordial on everyone’s part.  The only contentious part was when someone asked Bonds if he felt if the homerun was tainted. It was very cordial on everyone’s part.  The only contentious part was when someone asked Bonds if he felt if the homerun was tainted.

You can just see Bonds tense up.  “This record is not tainted…  at all…  at all.  Period.  You guys can say what you want”.

And they will.  Twenty minutes after the homerun was hit, ESPN had the author of Game of Shadows on.  I didn’t see the interview but I can imagine how it went.  I’m not becoming a Bonds apologist but there’s a time and a place.

On a side note, here are the people he considered heroes or looked up to growing up:  Muhammed Ali, Bill Cosby, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and of course, Willie Mays.

The More You Know.

By the way, keep listening to the audio clip… there’s an interview with Mike Bacsik, the pitcher who gave up #756.
