BZR Interview with MLBTradeRumors.com’s Tim Dierkes

I’ve been a fan of Tim Dierkes’ RotoAuthority.com for a couple years.  I thought I’d have Tim on Baseball Zealot Radio to talk about his other site, MLBTradeRumors.com which has been around for a little over a year now.  The way I hear it, the response to it has been overwhelming.

Anyway, it’s the perfect timing to have someone on who specializes in MLB hot stove action.  We take some time to chat with him and find out a little about him then talk some MLB.

Bonus points for Tim for being a U of I alum.

Enough jabbering… the show notes:

#35 Baseball Zealot Radio- Hot Stove plus Frick Ballot, Veterans Committee HOF Selections

Todd and Chuck join me for episode number 35 when we discuss all the baseball that’s been in the news lately.  It’s worth a listen just to hear Chuck do his Ron Santo impression.

Thanks to Todd for the PirateFest link.  He informed me that it still only costs $10/day.  I emailed him back with some smart-a** comment about “you get what you pay for”.

He came back with something about 2 World Series in his lifetime.

Anyway, here are the show notes:

Baseball Zealot Radio covers the awards (so far)

Happy Birthday to Baseball Zealot Radio!  One year ago today, we had our first podcast with me interviewing Teddy Ballgame down in Arizona covering the Arizona Fall League.  Listening to that first episode, I can tell we’ve come pretty far.

It’s Chuck and I for this episode.  Chuck wasn’t with us when we first started one year ago.  But Teddy and I got talking and we thought he would be a valuable addition to our show.  With his knowledge of baseball both current and historical, he’s been a great asset.

Anyway, here are the show notes for Show #34:

Show Notes for Episode 34:

Hosts: Tom, Chuck:

Summary: Chuck and I review the Gold Glove, Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, and Cy Young awards.  We take a look forward to the MVP award next week.

An email that we get prompts some discussion about the 1922 St Louis Browns.

The Veterans Committee is voting on executives and managers so we give our opinions.  Also, the Ford Frick voting is near and fans can help narrow the selection.  Chuck and I discuss what it means exactly to be in the Hall of Fame.

Teddy Ballgame talks about his trip to the AFL on Baseball Zealot Radio

I don’t get Teddy Ballgame in front of the mike very often but when I do, it’s a treat.  In Show 33, he gives us his take on what he saw when he went to the Arizona Fall League.

Here are the show notes:

Show Notes for Episode 33:

Hosts: Tom, Tedd:

Summary: Teddy’s back from the warm climate of Arizona where he caught some Arizona Fall League action.  In Show 33, he gives his scouting report of the players he saw and an overall summary of his trip.

A-Rod is one of Teddy Ballgame’s favorite players so we managed to hit on the topic of his departure from the Yankees as well.

We aren’t always graced by Teddy smooth voice (he says he has a face meant for radio) and sharp analysis so take advantage of his appearance on this show and take a listen.

Teddy mentioned a few AFL players (Joe Savery and Andrew McCutchen) that were keeping player blogs.  You can access these players’ blogs and others on the AFL’s 2007 Player Journals page.

Baseball Zealot Radio has a Cubs Roundtable

cubs logo

BZR turns the big 3-0 (episodes) this week.  I remember a poster that my cousin had up on his wall back in his rebellious days that said “Never trust anyone over 30!”  Of course now he works for a defense firm so take that for what you will.

This week’s show features two Cub fans as guest hosts.  I must say that provides for a different atmosphere when discussing my beloved Cubs.

We had fun doing the show and I hope you enjoy listening to it.  As I say in the show notes, I think I’ll have them back again.

Without further ado, here are the show notes:

Show Notes for Episode 30:

Hosts: Tom, Alex, Tyler

Summary: It’s crunch time for the Cubs so I bring on Cub fans Alex Breen and Tyler Davis as guest hosts.

We discuss the Cubs’ improved pitching staff, Lou Piniella’s shaving habits, and decide who we would choose for this year’s Cub MVP.

We had so much fun, BZR might invite those two back again.

BZR chats with Al Yellon from Bleed Cubbie Blue

I caught up with Al who gave me an interview for the Zealot.  He’s quite busy this season especially this time of year.

I think this was the first time we’ve had a Cubs fan on the show.  A real treat for me and a quite a switch from putting up with my Sox fans co-hosts.  Just kidding, CLuke.

Thanks to Al for his time.

Thanks for listening!!

Show Notes for Episode 29:

Hosts: Tom

Summary: Al Yellon is one of the biggest names in the Cubs blogosphere.  His blog, Bleed Cubbie Blue, is a great resource for Cub fans and judging by the amount of feedback, he has a large following.

For Episode 29, Tom chats with Al.  We talk a few minutes about the BCB blog then spend the rest of the show on what’s happening with the Cubs.

Show Notes for Episode 28:

Hosts: Tom, Todd V, and C Luke

Todd came armed to the teeth with his issues with Pirates’ GM Dave Littlefield and how he’s handling the Buccos.  Other topics we cover:

– Chuck does his review of ESPN’s Bronx is Burning.

– Tom Glavine’s 300th win and will there be another 300 game winner

– Chuck notes an article he read about moving the HOF to Yankee Stadium after the team moves.  We discuss.

– plus the usual Sox-Cub banter and much more!

Show Notes for Episode 27:

Hosts: Tom

Summary: University of Illinois Professor of History Adrian Burgos has just come out with his book, Playing America’s Game: Baseball, Latinos and the Color Line, and I thought I’d have him come on and talk about it.  Dr Burgos has done extensive research on Latinos in baseball especially in relation to the Negro Leagues.  More info from the University of Illinois website…

Also, Dr Burgos played an instrumental part in the induction of the class of 2006 Negro League ballplayers.  Again more info…
