Cricket match on the U of I campus

On my way back from Illini baseball’s Orange and Blue game on Saturday, I was treated to a cricket match on the University of Illinois campus.  Seeing as I already had my camera with me, I snapped some photos.

In the past, I’ve watched these guys practice on my way home from work on Fridays.  THIS, I gather, is what they’re practicing for.

I know next to nothing about the game of cricket but I do enjoy watching the bowler in action as he bowls the ball toward the batsman.  Unlike baseball, HE gets a running start.

Illini football at Wrigley Field??

There aren’t a lot of details but Wrigley Field may be the home of future Northwestern-Illinois football games.

Both teams have been in talks working out the finer points.  The soonest it could happen would be the 2010 season, according to the Big Ten Network.  Illinois football coach Ron Zook favors the idea.

It wouldn’t be the first time football was played at Wrigley.  The Chicago Bears played there up until 1970.  This video clip shows the Bears coming out of the locker room when they played at the Friendly Confines.

Who’s questioning Zook’s manhood?

Maybe it’s me but an unintentionally funny photo was on today’s front page of the sports section of the Champaign-Urbana News Gazette.  The photo was of Illinois football coach Ron Zook and Missouri coach Gary Pinkel.

Here’s a scanned image:

A rather unfortunate placement of where Zook’s finger is pointing combined with the headline, "Bigger, Better".

Again, I thought it was just me but I showed to my wife who has better sensibilities and she almost spit out the food she was eating from laughing.

Go Illini!!
