Let’s face it.  I’m picking Shawn Green to avoid the LSOTD be the Cubs’ opposing pitcher two of the last three days.  Zack Duke put in an admirable performance against the Cubbies pitching a complete game shutout for his 2nd win.

Green’s performance is noteworthy though helping the Rattlers eke out a win over the Dodgers 10-8.  Going 4-4 puts him at .319 for the year.

That’s his 9th double and 8th homer so he’s settling in nicely with the Toronto crowd.  With Rios (.365) and Wells (.390)  hitting ahead of him in the lineup, he should have plenty of ribbie opportunities this season.

KERRY ROBINSON – LAUGH ATTACK

Kerry Robinson had to leave a minor league game due to a laughing attack. Kerry starts laughing, the next thing you know he’s having chest pains, and has to leave the field. Check out No Laughing Matter.
Hopefully Robinson will not have another laughing fit now that he’s been called up to the Royals, KC’s season has really been a joke, although it’s nothing to laugh about.

From the Green Bay Press-Gazette (who by the way, needs to re-think how they format their box scores):

“I was just hoping to make it through five with the big lead we had,” he said. “I tried not to think about it too much, but I couldn’t help it.”

ALL STAR GAME – VOTE NOW!!!

I just got done doing my civic duty by voting 25 times (Chicago style) at MLB.COM for my favorite players for the MLB All Star Game. I just got done doing my civic duty by voting 25 times (Chicago style) at MLB.COM for my favorite players for the MLB All Star Game. The game will be at my favorite new ballpark PNC in Pittsburgh July 11, 2006. This year instead of voting for the most deserving candidates I decided to vote for members of the Chicago White Sox, past members of the Pale Hose, and guys who are on my APBA dice baseball team. AL: 1B – Paul Konerko, 2B – Tadahito Iguchi, SS – Juan Uribe, 3B – Joe Crede, C – AJ Pierzynski, OF – Scott Podsednik, Jermaine Dye, Grady Sizemore. NL: 1B – Lance Berkman, 2B – Jose Castillo, SS – Jimmy Rollins, 3B – Miguel Cabrera (my former APBA guy & only major leaguer with Florida), C – Brian McCann (really like him and have Victor Martinez on my APBA team, OF: Aaron Rowand, Carlos Lee, Brian Giles. It would be interesting to hear whom you’re voting for and why. Now get out there and vote! And if you get to the Burgh for the All Star game I’ll meet you for some drinks over at Club Royale on Liberty Avenue.

ROOKIE WATCH: TAYLOR BUCHHOLZ

Taylor Buchholz doesn’t possess overpowering stuff, but just goes out there and gets the job done. The 24 year old righthander who came to the Houston Astros as part of the Billy Wagner deal with the Phillies. Also coming over to the Stros in that trade were Brandon Duckworth & Ezequiel Astacio. Houston was trying to save some money by moving Octavio Dotel into the closer’s role, while stockpiling some starting pitchers. Buchhholz’ signature pitch is a knee buckling curveball that someday may be the best in the bigs. His fastball reaches the mid 90s and he has a change. Ironically Houston wanted top Phillie pitching prospects Cole Hamel & Gavin Floyd, but settled for Buchholz & Astacio. It looks like Taylor Buchholz has emerged into a solid #3 starter in the Astros starting rotation, while neither Hamel nor Floyd has enjoyed much MLB success thus far for the Phillies. The 6’4″ 220 pounder was born in Springfield, PA just a stone’s throw away from Philadelphia. He has two wins in three starts so far this season. His start before his last was a masterpiece against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 22nd. Buchholz went 8 2/3 innings allowing just two hits, while walking one, to go along with five strikeouts in his 3-0 win over the Buccos. He made it two wins in a row on April 30th with a 3-2 win over the Division rival Reds in Cincinnati. This kid is one to watch.
