Gonzo trades some leather with a fan

Outfielder Luis Gonzalez played for the Cubs for only a year and a half but that was long enough to establish a tradition that he plans to re-establish today.

Back when Gonzo played left field for the Cubs, he and 50 year-old fan Gary Stromquist, whose seat was out in the left field bleachers, would trade gloves every year.

This year Gonzalez will be playing right field but he’ll make the effort to meet with Stromquist.  Stromquist, otherwise known as "Loudmouth Gary" had some kind words for Gonzalez.  From an article on the ChiTrib:

"Gonzo is like the milkman or the mailman or your school teacher," he said. "He’s the nicest guy on the face of the earth."

In other news, Luis Gonzalez is actually playing right field.

Cubs fans from our 4th of July parade

028

Cubs fans had a presence in yesterday’s parade in Champaign-Urbana.  If I’m not mistaken, this would be the same group who marched in last year’s parade.

A poster taking some liberties with an Abe Lincoln quote.

A Cub fan wheeling around with a rather tattered Cub flag.

No Cardinals fans contingent showed up in the parade.  Must have been on the DL.

Go Cubs!

New poll on what baseball you’ll be watching

Got a new poll up on the right side.  Tell us what level of baseball you be watching mostly in 2008.  MLB, minor league or college level.

I thought about including high school or little league but all parents will skew the poll results.

[poll=6]

I for one will be attending many college games (no surprise there).  Illinois Field is two blocks from where I work so I plan to attend as many home games of the University of Illinois baseball team as my schedule allows.

Go Illini!!
