Yank Shelley Duncan making friends with the kiddos

Duncan wrote “Red Sox suck” on the piece of paper before signing his name.

Griffin’s mom was not happy.  “This is someone who wears the Yankee uniform and is on the payroll and should be setting an example for 10-year-olds,” she said.

I dunno…  when I heard about this, I thought it was kinda lacking in class for Duncan to do this.  At the same same time, I would think that would give the autograph a whole lot more meaning (and I suppose value).  Imagine him showing this to his friends in the future.  “Yeah, I got this autograph from this rookie on the Yankees in 2007… and he wrote THIS.  Hehe, we got the last word, though.  We won the division.”

Consider the alternative.  He could have just signed his name and the kid wouldn’t have gotten his picture in the news.

Korean Baseball “Brawl”

A comment in YouTube from someone who sounded like they knew what they were talking about shed some light on the matter:

for those who are confused..
the two teams are comprised of korean stars/entertainers..
and the pitcher threw a bean bag instead of the ball..
and to out of frustration the hitter was gonna vent his anger at the pitcher.. but obviously cos theyre all close and also for their image sakes they just turned it into that ^^
plus the hitter is a comedian.. so i guess thats his way of being funny.

Anyway, it gave me a laugh.

Republicans, Democrats play nice for one day

The GOP extended their winning streak over the Dems at RFK Stadium, defeating them 5-2 in the 46th annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball game on Monday. From Medill Reports: The Democrats were clearly weak on defense – at least for one night – committing nine errors in the seven-inning game. Weak on defense… cute.

Odd Omar Vizquel Souvenir

I was over at my buddy Brando’s house and he had displayed one of the strangest piece of baseball memorabilia I’ve ever seen. At first sight it was a rubber ducky… yes, one of those toys you take to the tub. It even squeaked. However, it was painted up as a ballplayer, Omar Vizquel, to be exact. It was produced when he was a Cleveland Indian.

On the back (tail?) was the name “Sugardale”. I assume that was the vendor who was part of the promotion.

Any Cleveland fans, familiar with this souvenir or promotion?

Candiotti enjoying his HOF status… as a bowler

He probably won’t make the Baseball Hall of Fame but former MLB pitcher and current announcer Tom Candiotti can at least brag about his induction into the Celebrities Bowling Hall of Fame. He probably won’t make the Baseball Hall of Fame but former MLB pitcher and current announcer Tom Candiotti can at least brag about his induction into the Celebrities Bowling Hall of Fame.

Says Candiotti:

“Bowling has always been an important part of my life. I spent much of my youth at bowling centers, and even as my career took me to cities across the country, I always made time to bowl. I hope that through The Tom Candiotti Youth Bowling Initiative, more children will have the opportunity to fall in love with bowling like I did, Being inducted into the Hall is an incredible honor – it is surreal that I will be enshrined along with so many of my bowling idols.”

He’s the second inductee. Former Pittsburgh Steeler Jerome Bettis is the first.

5-1-07 problem?

Seems the suspended game played havoc with MLB’s databases or something. I know that Soriano and Jones hit their first homers of the year yesterday for the Cubs yet in the boxscore that came out afterwards look liked this: and my post game alert sent to me after every game: It has since been fixed.

Poetry is not LaRussa’s thang

Seems Cardinals skipper Tony LaRussa had words with St Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bernie Miklasz regarding a “poem” he wrote about rival Chicago Cubs. “That cheap shot against the Cubs, I don’t want to be a part of it, and I want them, I want everybody to know that the St. Louis Cardinals and their manager … Continue reading “Poetry is not LaRussa’s thang”

Louis Cardinals and their manager have an absolute disregard for that,” La Russa said.

“I know it’s the editor [who] makes those decisions,” La Russa said. “But I have a couple of ways [to protest], and the one way I’m going to do it is I’m not going to answer questions from the Post-Dispatch. If you disagree with that, write that you disagree with it. I don’t care. I really don’t. What I care is that I don’t put my stamp, any way shape or form, on the cheap shot like that at a Major League organization.”

LaRussa has his reasons, I’m sure. Maybe he doesn’t this want to inspire the Cubs. Maybe he sincerely doesn’t believe it’s respectful. Whatever.

Or maybe LaRussa was upset because it came out about the day the Cubs passed the Cardinals in the standings. Yes, I know they slipped below them again.

Anyway, I read the offending column. I’m not impressed. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not offended as a Cub fan or anything like that. I just don’t find it that humorous or insightful or whatever it was supposed to be.

Maybe if it rhymed.

Pizza as a Weapon

I saw this and I thought it was pretty funny. A thrown pizza during a foul ball in the left field stands at Fenway leads to an ejection of a fan. Of course, the broadcasters play it up to the hilt for a good two or three minutes. Check out the video.
