Greg Maddux has been on my APBA team the Chicago Champions since I drafted him as a rookie. Today I’m watching him on TV pitch for the Cubs against the Florida Marlins. Maddux worked with a personal trainer in the off-season and jumped out to a 5-0 record in April. So far Greg is 0-3 in May, but he was cruising along with a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 5th when a Marlin batter grounded one to Cub shortstop Ronny Cedeno. Cedeno’s throw couldn’t be handled by Todd Walker at firstbase, the scorer ruled it a basehit (bad ruling on a bad play). Florida went on to hit for the cycle in the 5th after two men were out. There shouldn’t have been an earned run in the 5th allowed by Maddux, but instead Greg let up five in the inning (six all day). Greg Maddux’ ERA soared to over 4.30 as Joe Borchard rocketed one over the RF wall. I’m pulling for Mad Dog, but it certainly is rough rooting for the Cubbies.
